Thinking Politically in 300 words or less || Dick Pics, Future Politicians and Gang-Bangs

I often remind my friends that a mass surveillance network capable of a global reach doesn’t happen over night. It takes years of dedicated effort.  Think of how long it took to build the systems in place allowing us to call anyone in the world.

Looking at American politics it’s easy to conclude that we care tangentially about the issues. Our main focus is the selling and buying of an entertaining narrative. Politicians don’t care about our needs but luckily many of us don’t vote in our own interest.

So thinking about the future politicians; maybe they’ll change the system. Maybe they’ll turn this nation of slaves to the corporate hegemony into one of free people? But there’s a problem.

47820077Let’s say I were running for office. A week would pass before the dick pics I sent ex-gf leak to the media. Or an old Reddit account gets hacked and the jokes I contributed to ASKREDDIT: What is the dirtiest joke you know thread are published. Like that my career is over!! Our future politicians are right now on Tinder, Grinder, or GoneWild looking for casual hook ups or to expose themselves to strangers in various stages of undress.

In light of mass surveillance what kind of future can we look towards politically ? Will election be decided more by Bernays-esque public relation campaigns and less by the issue? Would you vote for someone who took part in gang-bangs to raise college tuition money to get that law degree kick starting her political career ? (Girl-power!) Would you vote for one of the participants in said gangbang, who performed in tube socks, retro hightops, and sunglasses because his future was so bright?

Does the public really suck ?

  1. I think by the time the generation that grew up with social media start running for parliment they will all have so much dirt of each other they won’t make a deal about it for fear of being exposed themselves.
Someone’s personal life wouldn’t really sway my vote if I thought they had good idea and were a good leader. I remember when it came out that a former prime minister got drunk and went to a strip club in New York I think his approval rating might have gone up.
