The Origin of ASpoonfulofSuga Blog

I’ve always been a very introspective person. Recently I felt the need to articulate what I’ve been thinking about. I decided to create a blog where I could be as crazy, cynical, sarcastic or serious as I liked. Thus this blog was born

Guiding Premise

T. S. Eliot says:

Humankind cannot stand very much reality.

Late one night after watching Christopher Lambert movies on Netflix; I found myself singing the song A Spoon of Sugar from the Mary Poppins movie. While like you I found it strange that Christopher Lambert has found so much work over the years, I decided to use the nightmarish tale of Mary Poppins as the inspiration for this blog.

Why you Ask?

Well no one, myself included, want to hear the honest truth and when we have no choice but to hear the truth we like the truth to be like our fast food and soft drinks, overly processed, with unknown carcinogens added as well as red dye 40, ascorbic acid, aluminum sulfate and of course an irresponsible amount of sugar.

A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way

So on this blog I misappropriate reality by adding the necessary spoonfuls of sugar for your enjoyment

Who Is Mr MuthafuckingMaryPoppins?

MrMary is a character that no one ever sees but who is never the less felt from behind the margins. He is an homage to characters such as Godot, Ms Columbo, and Mr Mary Poppins.

It was my aberrant thinking that came up with this scenario:

Ms. Mary Poppins was once married to a bitter cynical African-American man who while was sexually was the best she ever had, he was not fun to be around because he habitually exposed the fanciful but fictitious imaginative constructs she used as a crutch to go through life.

She left him one day and has sought to make things right for the little Caucasian kids living in the affluent suburbs of a first world metropolis. We all know that some extra love, sugar, singing and dancing are the perfect way of lobotomizing today’s children, and in doing so save them from bitterness and cynicism by  (Her ex-husband being a black guy explains the twinkle in her eye she gets when she sees the chimney sweeps all covered in soot.)

Finally

The picture to the right is of the character Piggy from the book The Lord of the Flies. In the story Piggy is the voice of reason and the moral compass who is effectively silenced forever when he is killed. It is a reminder to me to remember that telling the truth is like anal sex without any lubrication: painful. Also that people have a tendency to kill the messenger or anyone not talking about the weather and the banalities of the day.

  3. Dave, I’m looking for some past entries of yours, as in way way back. I can’t find the calendar where I can choose the dates. My computer is very slow in going down your archives. Very huge file.
And whatever happened to the other features of your blog such as Posts I Like?

      • I’d appreciate that. I’m actually relying on Related articles at the bottom of your posts (but they’re limited only to selected articles), for the meantime, to reread your past entries. t’s been quite fun and educational so far; much like taking up a few subjects again in college. 🙂
        Warmest Regards. Take care.

      • There’s been no change at all so far. You used to have a calendar to facilitate easy navigation through your archives. I hope to make use of it again so I can reread some of your previous posts without clicking backwards one by one. For what it’s worth, I’m using google chrome. It doesn’t show any sidebar in your blog here.
Thanks, Dave. Have an awesome Friday.

      • I just tried Internet Explorer and saw that your blog has a sidebar indeed. IE doesn’t work well with my netbook but I’ll try. Pardon me for bothering you :-).

It’s a blast going over your previous posts; A lot of treasures to be unearthed.
        Best wishes.
