We are accustomed to live in hopes of good weather ……

We are accustomed to live in hopes of good weather, a good harvest, a nice love-affair, hopes of becoming rich or getting the office of chief of police, but I’ve never noticed anyone hoping to get wiser. We say to ourselves: it’ll be better under a new Tsar, and in two hundred years it’ll still be better, and nobody tries to make this good time come tomorrow.

― Anton Chekhov

  1. The key word is ‘noticed’. People hoping to get wiser don’t make a lot of noise about it. On second thoughts, maybe they do – every second blog is about that, isn’t it?

  2. I Love this! I myself do hope to get wiser & look forward to getting older. I’ll say something like “I can’t wait to be thirty” and my friends think I’m crazy! What?! Why do you want to be thirty!? Because of everything that I think will come with it, like being more comfortable in your own skin and the knowledge and perspective I will have gained in life; so far every year has provided some degree of this & so I can knly hope it continues. They’ll respond that they’d like to be 20 with more money & I know I’ve lost them.

    • Yeah I have said that to friends too and they are shocked that I don’t want to be younger 10 years younger (21) spending my money on penile enlargement surgeries and cheap thrill during carnival in Brazil. I have noticed how life feel different in my thirties from how it did in my 20’s and I ma really happy to be alive to witness that. I would like the wisdom that old age brings but hopefully not the incontinence and adult diapers. Im sure it’s a trade-off though 🙂
