Im Back and Just In Time: 2012’s Cultural Sodomite of the Year

History is a funny thing. A plethora of event happen but things do not change much. There are still amazing acts of generosity and kindness that re-affirm for me that man is indeed a indeed a piece of work, that we can be noble in reason , infinite in faculty and admirable in form and moving. There are also unfortunate acts that expose the worst in us, these acts of personal social and collective  exploitation and mistreatment remind everyone that we are  sometimes at best worst than the animals we claim to be so much more evolved than.

A Cultural Sodomite

Every year  I look through the happenings around the world and deliberate on who or what was the biggest cultural sodomite. You may be asking yourself “What is a cultural sodomite?” , let me tell you.

A cultural Sodomite is a person who through their action takes away from the grandioseness of what being humans can be , or sullies the human experience. In figurative terms they non-consentually ass-fuck civilization  sans lube.

In 2011 while Steve Jobs, Poor  people, Kim Jun Il, and the arts were amongst the noted runner ups to cultural sodomite of the year, I decided that Compassion would reign supreme as the notorious  cultural sodomite for that year. Why? well I am glad you asked, Here is a page from the annals of history that I penned.

 2011 in the Annals of History

None of the pepper spraying would be an issue if compassion wasn’t always on a campaign to delude us into thinking human life has value outside of our narrow wants and needs and petty biases. It doesn’t I live in NY and saw first hand what compassion did during the Occupy Wall Street Movement – this movement  brought various people from different socio economic strata together. This is the worst thing that can happen to America and the world. Why?

Compassion works against this system, it is anti democratic. Rather than keeping polarized groups of people separate from each other, it seeks always a common ground whereby we can all move forward, and continue on our individual and collective path to self actualization without impinging on each others ‘rights’.

So thanks Compassion

In Tunisia you brought people together over the death of a 26 year old fruit seller Mohamad Bouazizi who set himself on fire out of desperation triggering anger against the regime over widespread unemployment and corruption. This in turn brought people of other nations together  creating this Arab spring nonsense. Eventually you made middle class America seem less selfish and self-absorbed by bringing them together in parks to do yoga, drum out some cool beats.

We could have been eating Costco sized snacks watching the latest Celebrity Sex Tape or Tim Tebow or further enshackling each other to an ideology and social practice that slowly degrades our will to express our individuality

2012 Cultural Sodomite Runner-Ups

Felix Baumgartner   He is the last face of colonial Europe. Felix Baumgartner set the world record for skydiving an estimated 39 kilometres (24 mi), reaching an estimated speed of Mach 1.24, on 14 October 2012, and became the first person to break the sound barrier without vehicular power on his descent. In a time of extremes of poverty, wars, anguish Felix whether knowingly or not decided to engage in an activity so impractical and expensive and in turn so out of touch with billions of people he forever set the standard that personal achievements of Old World European is worthy  enough to make the whole world stop in their tracks.

2012 Presidential Elections

We call it the land of the free and the home of the brave because in order to live hear and swallow what actually happens here you have to have freed yourself from whatever moral compass you had and brave the harsh tyrannical, debasing invective in order to continue to pretend that gender, racial, economic sexual, etc discrimination don’t exist or that our international action have adversely affected the lives of millions around the world.

Internet censorship

Governments have been trying desperately to control the internet more and more why ?  Why not ? Governments exist for control and to control in order to actualize and bring to fruition  the insidious beliefs and practices of a minority of people

Young Celebrities

Celebrities got married and pregnant and ironically were not drafted into war or do anything beneficial for society other than to continually pollute the news with stories of their  marriages, pregnancies, splits and public fights

Oral Sex

This year men have gotten beaten up by their girl-friends because of bad oral sex, one man even had his nuts bitten off by his girlfriend. I don’t know what Canada was thinking when they passed a bill making it legal in 1969 of all years

 Critical Thinking

You heard it right here folks Critical thinking is destroying our civilization. Imagine you woke up and realized that due to the emergence of a global economy and large scale travel and ideological and cultural interaction that our policies domestic and foreign can  have far reaching consequences around that world. Imagine if you will living with the knowledge that when we exploit others we irreparable exploit ourselves not only as because we are a social animal, but because we need each other and the intrinsic differences  to come to a firm understanding of what it is to be human.

Things like that start happening and then people start protesting. They start asking for things like fairness and equal rights for all people. They try to get legislation passed that will help later generation not grow up as spiritually impoverished as we are. I mean like legislation to protect the environment, remove cancer causing pollutants from drinking water, safe condition in factories, regulations of large socio political institutions like banks, universities.   Worst of all we will have to re-examine ourselves as a individuals. Who wants to reassess gun control laws or how we as a culture treat and marginalize the mentally ill with given them not only the help they need but a means to reintegrate into society.

Don’t Worry Though

This problem is being address though. There are people working on this and we have some promising leads:

OK How this work:

The powers that be have data on you, your habits, what you like and don’t like, and slowly they create through media the simulacrum of reality that mimics satiety comfort and a false sense of belonging  while at the same time limiting access to things like books and non biases new reported that would inspire you to think critically.

In closing here is my advice:

Don’t be part of the Problem, be part of the solution.
