Once I hear the word mysticism I immediately feel gentle bucolic music carressing the entirety of my body. I see before my mind’s eyes people holding hands, I see trees all around me waiting to be hugged. Slowly the music dies and as I prepare for new sensations I am confront with the evidence of my drug abuse slowly I start to come back to a real world were there are bills to be paid, debt collectors to dodge, painfully heavy chains to polish that keep me in all my relationships.
I cannot say to know what mysticism is, and with that said let me tell you about it. I would imagine that every form of mysticism has its techniques and their special vocabulary and definitions. Judging from my vast knowledge on mysticism I can make a seriously authoritative blanket generalization: it is an attempt to experientially arrive at the heart of the mystery of existence that doesnt require abstracting oneself from society. Every human activity need, desire, is a reflection of this central mystery :raising a family, having sex, eating, sleeping contemplating all are manifestations of this mystery is one is awakened.
Sexual Mysticism – The Biggest Crock of Shit ever
First let me say this as a proviso, since I havent read the book: THIS IS HORSE SHIT. One cannot bone one’s way to God. iof that were the case porn stars would be saints and wouldn’t have to wears the nun and priest habit while filming because we would be inundated with their spirituality from far away.
What makes sexual mysticism particularly attractive in the modern era? It speaks to a deep human need for connection not only to another individual, but also to nature and to the divine. The institution of marriage dissolved considerably during the twentieth century as part of the larger dissolution of cultural unities in the face of ever-intensifying secularism that served to erode or sever connections between people and their religious traditions. Sexual mysticism serves to restore these connections not on a cultural level, but between two people who meet and join not only in nature, but also magically, or, to put it another way, not only as individuals, but also as representatives of principles in the cosmos beyond themselves.
While I am a big supporter of balance between the masculine and feminine energies within a person this is something else. While I am also for self actualization which cannot be ascertained without love and intimacy this is bullshit. Why for the same reason why the following is an insult to mysticism
- Masturbative Mysticism - Only I exist especially when I juice myself!
(This goes for males and females) - Masochistic Mysticism – Through suffering I become holier and more sanctified like Christ. You will have to read books from Jane Eyre the Bronte Sisters, watch the Oyygen network if you are a guy and for a woman you will have to engage your significant other in conversation shut up and listen
- NY Style Mysticism – By begin a raging asshole to everyone.I help them explore the tough sardonic side of love which is a community service. Note: During sex no lubrication is used when need
- Canadian Mysticism – pork products plus an invisible presence on the world/social scene helps you to fade into eternal somnolence. You can be one with nature and everything else like the smoke issuing from a filthy cigarette on the floor of a Time Square peep show.
- Special Needs Mysticism – For those of us with no common sense or who aren’t practical we have spiritual books full of picture from the Barnes Noble discount aisle and hallucinogenic plant extracts.
Connecting to Nature and the Divine
The author correctly defines one of modern mans conditions namely that he does connect to nature and his fellow human beings. This is true but how many more ways can we fuck nature to get an appreciation of her ? We kind of get dirty with nature like she is someone we met on a spring break trip and subsequent departure from decency. I guess while we are screwing mother Nature we should wear the plastic from the soda can holder thingie and before throw it into the ocean.
Seriously one cannot by being a vegetarian be closer to God. It may be in terms of practice a method to work in consciousness, like being conscious of the sanctity of life and the sacrifices made so life can continue. While going through practices of being ‘aware’ during the sex can open doors to maybe higher perceptions that in an of itself is only a practice and can and will be a barrier.
Bottom line: People who talk about Sexual Mysticism are talking more about themselves than about mysticism.
Final thoughts
Love of forms and faces inst the love of the mystic – this coming from a famous mystic Rumi. I am not knocking the author and the book though so far I have done so. The book is great, buy it, read it, tell me about it. I think personally the title is while a good one an insult to mysticism but that just my dumb opinion. The way I have seen the book used is deplorable. The book in someone’s hand can be a gem, in another hand can just be an excuse to further lie to oneself about how spiritual one is especially through means of itinerant porking.
The author says the following which was ignored by many:
